Every important historical investigation reaches a moment when it grows beyond the work of one researcher.
It becomes a collaborative effort.
The Founding Research Investigators represent the first community of members who have chosen to move beyond simply watching the History Had Eyes documentary series and become active participants in its continued growth and discovery.
Your membership helps support the expansion of the Digital Research Vault, the development of new educational resources, future documentary productions, original historical investigations, and the long-term vision of establishing Collaborative Intelligence as a new model for historical scholarship and public education.
More importantly, you become part of the story itself.
Throughout history, many of the greatest discoveries have been made not by individuals working alone, but by communities willing to share ideas, compare evidence, ask difficult questions, and encourage one another to keep searching. That same spirit guides the History Had Eyes investigation.

Over time, this section will continue to evolve into a collaborative workspace where historical inquiry, documentary storytelling, digital scholarship, and educational innovation come together.

We have opened several investigations to find additional corroborating evidence for the facts we published in Rescuing Nicholas: The Secret Mission to Save the Tsar, published in 2018. These include, but are not necessarily limited to:
RQ-001 | The Hutson Testimony - Established
What additional independent documentation can corroborate Martin Hutson's account?
What We Know:
Evidence confirms that Martin Hutson was in the theater at the time of the purported Romanov Rescue. His enlistment, discharge, and service records confirm this conclusion.
RQ-002 | Special Train No. 28 - Established
What surviving records establish the train's movements, personnel, passengers, and mission?
What We Know:
Evidence found at the National Archives II in College Park, Maryland, in the AEF Siberia section confirms the existence of Special Train #28 and notes officials from the Russian Railway Service Corporation who were aboard at the time Martin Hutson said the train was in the Irkutsk/Harbin area.
RQ-003 | The Forensic Record - Unresolved
What does the DNA evidence establish, and where are the legitimate limits or controversies surrounding it?
What We Know:
Dr. Maples and his forensic team, who examined the alleged Romanov remains, raised credible questions about the authenticity of those remains. Size, age, and chain of custody were among the most troubling issues reported. DNA sample sources are also questioned, including by the Russian Orthodox Church.
RQ-004 | AEF Siberia - Established But Under Investigation
What did Graves's command know about Romanov movements or rescue discussions?
What We Know:
The National Archives II in College Park, Maryland, has a significant AEF Siberia section dedicated to the AEF Siberia mission objectives during the time of the alleged Romanov rescue. Numerous other sources have also confirmed mission objectives and timelines as reported in Rescuing Nicholas: The Secret Mission to Save the Tsar.
RQ-005 | Pershing & Team - Under Investigation
What documentary trail, if any, connects Pershing or his staff to the Hutson mission?
What We Know:
George Hutson attested later in life to the Martin Hutson mission. No supporting documentation has been located to date.
RQ-006 | Allied Diplomacy - Under Investigation
What did Wilson, George V, Lloyd George and their governments actually know?
What We Know:
Considerable evidence is available for examination in the Library of Congress and National Archives II regarding various Allied participation in the Siberian theater at the time of the purported Romanov rescue. Allies reporting in the Yekaterinburg theater at the time of the reported rescue include the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Japan, and the Vatican/Holy See.
RQ-007 | American Red Cross _ Unresolved
What role, if any, did ARC personnel, facilities, or transportation play?
What We Know:
Historical records indicate that the United States military used the American Red Cross for mission support in many other instances. Documentation on their involvement in Special Train #28 is incomplete to date.
RQ-008 | Vladivostok and the Pacific - Under Investigation
What evidence can document the proposed movement from Siberia toward North America?
What We Know:
Military ship movement records confirm passages at the time Martin Hutson claims, including for U.S Transport Crook and U.S. Transport Great Northern. More detailed records are being sought.
RQ-009 | New York City & The Bolsheviks - Under Investigation
What evidence can document the January 1920 attack on Wall Street?
What We Know:
An explosion occurred at 23 Wall Street on September 16, 1920, and is documented in FBI files and local news reports. Bolshevik participation is not confirmed to date, although the FBI file has not been resolved.
RQ-010 — Post-Siberia - Established But Under Investigation
If the Hutson account is accurate, what independently verifiable evidence exists for Nicholas after the Siberian phase?
What We Know:
The U.S. Consul General for Siberia at the time of the purported Romanov rescue, Ernest Harris, confirmed in a 1930s interview that Romanovs were aboard Special Train #28 at the time Martin reported. However, the Consul General alleges the remains were ashes. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy at the time of the purported Nicholas rescue mission, later wrote a surprisingly similar story about such a rescue of a Russian nobility when he was president of the United States.
RQ-011 | If Nicholas Lived - Under Investigation
Where did he go?
What We Know:
Several Romanov researchers appear to have credible evidence supporting Nicholas’s survival, which we have been privy to but not at liberty to disclose at this time. Through previous research on Nicholas’s activities post-New York City, we believe these researchers’ leads are substantive and viable.
